Rules You Probably Didn't Know CrossFit Games Athletes Have to Follow

You must be over the age of 14 to compete.

You don't get to pick the events you compete in.

You must be in top physical form.

You must comply with random drug testing.

You have to compete in the Open first.

You have to compete against thousands of individuals.

You must be a citizen of the continent you're representing.

You have four days to complete an Open event.

You must submit scores on time.

You must complete all events to qualify.

Your score must be validated by a judge.

You can compete as an individual or as a team.

To compete on a team, you must be a CrossFit member.

Teams must represent male and female athletes.

You must understand how your score is determined.

You need to have all of the required equipment.

You have to pay for your own equipment.

You have to convert all weight amounts into pounds.

You must do the event as it is released—no modifications.

You must follow wardrobe guidelines.

You can’t wear any gear that will give you an advantage.

You must be invited to participate in the quarterfinals.

If an athlete drops out, their spot isn't filled.

You must save all previous event videos.

At least one athlete from each continent gets invited to the semifinals.

You may get to compete in the semifinals, even if you didn't quality.

You can't skimp on training.

You should prioritize nutrition.

You can earn sponsorships.

You could earn money during the Open.

You could win even more money at the end.

You must cover all travel expenses.

You can't challenge the CrossFit judges.

You can win prize money—even if you don't win.

You have to pay taxes on prize money.
