Running shorts that bunch and ride up, providing an opportunity for thigh chafing, are the bane of any runner’s existence. Yeah, there’s a reason most marathoners choose to wear leggings on the big day.
I personally hate running in leggings. So, for eight years, I toughed it out with some mediocre Nike shorts that had to constantly be tugged down, slowing me down at almost every mile. That is, until I found the Tracker Short V from Lululemon. They're now the only running shorts I’ll ever wear, despite the fact that I own five pairs from other brands—all of which are in perfect condition. That’s right, I’d rather do extra laundry so that I can wear these babies at least a few times a week.
For starters, they’re so comfortable. The stretchy waistband lies flat and never digs into my hips like my other pairs do. Each leg has a roomy opening that was specifically designed for athletic thighs—and it shows. There’s enough space for your legs to move freely without ever having to worry about the fabric clinging or bunching up (yes, even when you start to sweat). That’s thanks to the lightweight, sweat-wicking fabric that was created with high-intensity cardio in mind. And they rarely ride up. The relaxed fit, coupled with the four-inch inseam, ensures that they stay put no matter how much you move.
The V shape on each side falls just below mid-thigh and does wonders for flattering my thighs, which I’m usually self-conscious of. But I actually feel good about my legs when I have these Lululemons on, so much so that I’ll wear ’em even when I have no plans to work out. Pro tip: They have an ultra-convenient zippered side pocket that’s just big enough to store a key and credit card if you find yourself running errands in them (yeah, I’m guilty of that).
And I’m not the only one singing their praises. “These shorts are the perfect fit and length! The shape is flattering and the fabric is great,” one reviewer raves. “These are the BEST to run in. They don’t move at all,” another fan writes on the Lululemon site.
One thing to note? They do run a bit small, so some runners suggest sizing up from what you usually wear at Lululemon. I’m usually a size 6 in the brand’s leggings, but I went for a size 8 in these shorts and they fit like a dream. A lot of reviewers also say these are the best if you like a low-rise fit (*raises hand*). If you don’t, check out this similar medium-rise version.
If you need me, I’ll be buying a pair in every color.
