I think running has made me a stronger person mentally. After running a marathon four months after my stroke in 2016, it made me realize that I can accomplish anything I put my mind to. I had to learn how to walk, talk and do everything again, but the 2016 Chicago Marathon on the calendar nagged me to work hard in rehab and get back into the swing of things. It was my third full marathon, and I had just completed a half marathon three weeks prior to my stroke. I wasn’t about to give up, even if I had to walk a lot more than I wanted to. I ended up pacing myself much better than I ever had in any other race.

I love the extra perks of being a member, and the sense of community. Also thanks so much for the huge bag of goodies I received at the 2019 NYC Marathon expo for being a member! It made me feel so special!

Whenever I’m asked this I feel like my answer is so silly, but I love the feeling afterwards when it’s over. The feeling of exhaustion mixed with accomplishment that I made it for one more run.

I run on a local bike trail in Crown Point called the Erie Lackawanna Trail. Indiana is not known for its hills, but there are some small hills that always challenge me. Also it’s relatively more safe as there aren’t really consistent sidewalks where I live.

I’m obsessed with my Brooks Ghost shoes and the 8 billion pair of Goodr shades I’ve acquired over the years but for race days I have a pair of custom Oakleys I had made almost 10 years ago. They’re my lucky shades.

The farthest I’ve traveled for a marathon so far is to Edinburgh, Scotland in 2018. It was probably the most beautiful race yet.

I’m working on completing the Abbott Six Star Medal. Berlin 2020 was to be my third star but was one of the many races postponed until 2021 due to the pandemic. We’ve got this!
