I stopped drinking alcohol and using recreational drugs in 1983, then five months later I quit smoking. I discovered that working out was a great replacement for the relief I used to get from my vices. Cycling and weightlifting were my primary activities in the beginning and eventually evolved into competitive road cycling and inline speed skating. A demanding career and global travel required me to find more portable ways to exercise and stay fit. I started running for this purpose and enjoyed the convenience of being able to run almost anywhere and anytime. The solitary nature of running also fits well with my personality and I found it both meditative and fun. I now run several organized races every year and completed my first marathon in New York City last November.
I love learning new tools and methods to train and find that RW+ is an awesome resource.
My values are built around mental, physical, and spiritual fitness and running hits on all these levels.
I love my long run on Saturday mornings starting as the sun rises and looping through a local nature park to return home revitalized for another week.
My Saucony Ride Iso 2 shoes with Balega socks. It’s all about the feet!
I In-line skated from Athens, GA to Atlanta in the rain as part of a fundraising event for the Leukemia Society of America.
To run all three of the major US marathons: NYC (done!), Chicago, and Boston.
