Running has changed my inner voice from self-deprecatory to supportive and optimistic. For my entire life, I have had an inner voice that has told me “you're not good enough”. Countering that voice with success on and off the mats proved only temporarily effective. Embracing running as a lifestyle has changed that voice to say “This is what you deserve”. The transformation has been amazing.

To join a positive community of fellow running enthusiasts from all over the world and all walks of life. A constant source of inspiration.

The act of running imbues me with a sense of purpose and peace. Being outdoors connects me with the world in a way that staring into a computer screen will never do. I always feel better afterward, no matter how difficult a specific run was. It has also afforded me the opportunity to continue to pursue athletic excellence in a comparatively safe manner, after having accrued a slew of injuries competing in martial arts over the years. Naturally, it brings the added bonus of maintaining my fitness.

My favorite route is along the Los Gatos Creek Trail near Vasona Dam to the top of St. Joseph’s Hill, as early in the morning as possible. The trail is a nice, gradual paved incline building into a steep rocky climb to the summit that always manages to kick my ass. The energy gels and views at the summit are worth the effort, as is the downhill afterward.

Absolutely, without question, I love my Tracksmith Strata Tee. Honestly the best shirt I've ever owned for running. It's lightweight, keeps the sweat off of me, and so comfortable I can hardly tell I have it on.

I was picked at random from a crowd of people to carry and run with the Olympic torch for a small distance as it made its way to the Coliseum in the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. Who knew the highlight of my running career would come at age 10?

To finish the 2020 Kauai Marathon in September (assuming it will proceed as planned), then see what lies beyond that. I chose this event after having read an issue of RW that highlighted the best marathons as chosen by the editorial staff. Great races to choose from!
