‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ Just Won an Emmy for Outstanding Reality Show and Ru’s Speech Was So On Point
RuPaul’s Drag Race just won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Reality-Competition Program.
It was nominated along with American Ninja Warrior, Nailed It, The Amazing Race, The Voice, and Top Chef.
The Emmys are fully underway and so far, Zendaya showed up looking like a fierce Poison Ivy, Sophie Turner and Kit Harington had the cutest Game of Thrones reunion, and the audience just laughed at the Kardashians when they said they’re “real people” who tell “unfiltered and unscripted” stories while they presented the award for Outstanding Reality-Competition Program.
Oh, BTW, RuPaul’s Drag Race just secured the trophy for the Outstanding Reality-Competition Program category and RuPaul’s speech was so on point. Sadly, the trophy isn’t shaped like RuPaul, like how the ones on his show are, but this golden one proves how much of a genius RuPaul Charles is and what an impact his 11-season show has had.
When he got up to accept the award, RuPaul said:
“Thank you guys so much! All these beautiful people...We are so proud of this show, and we are so happy for all the gorgeous kids who come on and show how fabulous they are.”
He also took a second to encourage everyone to visit Vote.gov to register to vote in the upcoming elections because exercising your right to vote is always a great idea!
Ru was nominated along with shows like American Ninja Warrior, Nailed It, The Amazing Race, The Voice, and Top Chef, so there was definitely some tough competition.
Leading up to tonight’s show, Ru attended the Creative Arts Emmys, and the show took home awards for Outstanding Hairstyling and Outstanding Costumes. Another milestone worth celebrating: For the fourth year in a row, Ru won the Outstanding Host for a Reality-Competition Program category.
In summation: She’s a super queen!
