Russell Crowe Skipped the Golden Globes for a Very Important Reason

Russell Crowe won his second Golden Globe on Sunday night, but the actor wasn't present at this year's ceremony — instead, he sent along a pre-written message to be read aloud in case he won.

Crowe won the award for Best Actor in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for his role in The Loudest Voice, but since he wasn't present at the show, presenter Jennifer Aniston read aloud the note he sent, saying he was missing the show due to the wildfires in his native Australia.

"Make no mistake," Aniston read. "The tragedy unfolding in Australia is climate change-based. We need to act based on science, move our global workforce to renewable energy and respect our planet for the unique & amazing place it is."

Crowe was nominated for his work as Roger Ailes in the Showtime miniseries. According to Variety, the actor has property in the country that is gravely threatened by wildfires raging in Australia.
