Russian woman's tombstone in shape of an iPhone costs as much as a new iPhone XS
A tombstone in the shape of a 5-foot-tall iPhone was erected over a 25-year-old woman in Ufa, Russia. According to the Daily Mail, her father, Rais Shameev, recently installed the unique tombstone after his daughter, Rita, died of unknown causes two years ago.
The grave features a photo of Rita standing in a park, surrounded by trees. It also features an iPhone’s familiar home and volume buttons, a camera, and an Apple logo on the back.

While news reports don’t include many details of the late woman’s life, they do mention that Rita loved to travel and had friends in Germany. Her father has not commented, but it would be safe to assume that she also loved her cellphone.

A mourner, Nikolay Yevdokimov, told newspaper ProUral, “I thought I was having hallucinations. How could an American smartphone suddenly appear at our cemetery? And such a huge one.”
While your deceased loved ones will not be able to send Snapchats in the afterlife, perhaps it will be comforting to know they are resting under one of their favorite objects that brought them such joy and Instagram fame. A Siberian artist named Pavel Kalyuk and his company, Autograph, is behind the iTombstone. Initially, Kalyuk created the laser engraved monument to “attract attention,” but people quickly requested to commission a tombstone for their dearly departed.
Ironically, the cost for the creation and the installation is nearly the same price as a new iPhone XS. The stone, which is made of Ukrainian basalt, cost 35 thousand rubles to make, with an installation fee of 30 thousand, which would be a combined sum of $985.73. Meanwhile, a new iPhone XS costs $999.
In a thousand years, this is going to be the plot of a scary movie where the main character gets ghosted for real.
