Russia's 'Defense Cutie' is driving the internet wild
News about Russia and its government has been at the forefront of American politics lately, but this time, the country’s most recent political move is making headlines for a different reason.
The Russian Federation on Friday announced its appointment of Rossiyana Markovskaya as Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu’s new personal spokesperson. But when the internet caught wind of who Markovskaya is, and her age, they went wild.
According to Sputnik News and RT.com, the new member of the defense team is 26, and like most millennials, has an eye-catching Instagram feed full of her daily life and some selfies with signature red lipstick. Naturally, her followers quickly dubbed her “Defense Cutie,” or “Oboronyasha” in Russian.

Markovskaya will speak on behalf of Shoigu, who in addition to acting as minister of defense is also general of the army and President Vladimir Putin’s righthand man.
Prior to working for the Russian’s military branch, Markovskaya worked as a journalist for Zvezda, a TV news station in the country. Her Facebook page says she graduated from Far Eastern Federal University in 2014.

Sputnik reports that gossipers believe she will dethrone Natalia Poklonskaya as the Russian government’s “it” girl. Poklonskaya is in her 30s and also became well known for her youth and beauty after serving as a former Crimean prosecutor and now attorney general.
Only time will tell, but from the looks of Markovskaya’s Instagram, people will definitely see a lot more of her no matter what.
