Rustic & Cozy ‘Cottagecore’ Baby Names
During the pandemic, when we were cocooning ourselves in our homes and learning (or at least trying to learn) how to bake bread, we embraced a new aesthetic: cottagecore. Though at its heart, cottagecore isn’t really “new” at all. It’s rooted in a simple, sustainable, harmonious-with-nature existence like the kind our great-great grandparents lived. The cottagecore aesthetic was a perfect fit for pandemic living, when our home life was the sole focus, and the lack of outside activities meant we had more time to pick up hobbies like knitting and gardening and baking — and it’s still going strong.
Like most popular aesthetic trends, cottagecore has made its way into our baby naming patterns, just like the “coastal grandmother” aesthetic did. But where coastal grandmother names are preppy and refined, cottagecore names are rustic and rugged; think cottage in the woods versus cottage in the Hamptons. Think a cozy wool sweater and a cup of herbal tea from the garden, and hand-hewn logs for the fire; a hearty soup bubbling in an iron kettle and bread baking in a wood-burning stove. That’s the cottagecore aesthetic.
