A Rustic Fall Wedding at Hayfield Catskill Alive with Vibrant Color

Lauren Megerdichian

It may be on the cusp of Summer, but it's a crisp Fall day in our minds thanks to this gorgeous wedding captured by Elena Wolfe Photography. The beautiful bride and her handsome hub chose a bright color scheme rich with orange, pink and burgundy hues complimenting the Fall foliage surrounding their venue, Hayfield Catskill, in upstate New York. The lucky bridesmaids were able to choose their very own dream dress for the special day, allowing their unique personalities to shine through! Oh, and prepare to be wow-ed by the colorful arrangements from Heart and Soil Flowers. Keep on reading to step inside this charming day, planned to perfection by Modern Kicks.

From the Bride... We got engaged in Camden, Maine over July 4 weekend when we were there on a family trip. I always wanted an emerald engagement ring however my husband would not let me be part of any ring design. All I was able to share was what stone I wanted and my ring size and he insisted on doing everything else, which meant I knew nothing about the ring until the moment he pulled it out and proposed. The emerald stone had been set in a man’s ring that belonged to my husband’s late grandfather. Before we got engaged, when my husband told his grandmother he wanted to propose and I wanted an emerald, she got the ring and gave it to him and he had the stone reset in a new design. It is truly one of my most treasured possessions and incredibly special to have a part of his grandparents with us all the time.

When we got engaged we already knew we wanted a fall wedding with the backdrop of the outdoors and the foliage at its peak. Hayfield truly embodied everything we were looking for and the barns and the beautiful surroundings laid the foundation for the aesthetic direction we went in – especially the colorful leaves which inspired the colors that were featured in the floral arrangements by Heart and Soil Flowers, the bridal bouquet and the color palette I gave my bridesmaids so they could choose their dresses. Overall we wanted our wedding to be a fun celebration where our guests could enjoy themselves, enjoy the natural beauty of the Catskills and have a memorable time.

My dress was one of my most favorite parts of the wedding. Going dress shopping I really had no idea what I wanted and therefore I tried lots and lots of different shapes, fabrics, cuts, etc. This Halfpenny London top and skirt combination really embodied our wedding for me, a beautiful shape – the satin top bringing a classic touch and the fringe skirt adding playfulness and ease which felt appropriate given the barn and outdoor setting. It was important to me that each bridesmaid be able to choose their dress – color, style, everything – as I wanted everyone to be comfortable and feel their best.

I love the mismatch look and encouraged each of them to choose dresses with embellishments, prints, different textures and fabrics, etc. I loved each dress they chose, I loved how they really fit each bridesmaid’s personality and the way they looked all together at the wedding was exactly what I envisioned. We wrote the table assignments on vintage window frames we rented from Hudson Valley Vintage Rentals. The look and feel of that display fit perfectly with the rustic beauty of the barns and gave a nice, no frill touch to the seating.

My sister in law designed the wedding invitations and we worked very closely with her on all elements of the aesthetic direction. She then painted the leaves in watercolor before scanning them digitally to create the invitations. Those motifs were utilized throughout the invitation suite as well as the programs, menu, table settings, etc. At the wedding. We had a short non-denominational ceremony officiated by a dear friend of ours which made the experience incredibly special. Having someone so close to us, who knows us both really well and therefore was able to bring a very personal touch to the celebration and then be the one to pronounce us husband and wife was one of our favorite moments.
