Huge news for Walmart+ fans: The retail giant will now offer prescriptions at a discount—and some are even free!
It's part of a new program called Walmart+ Rx for less that offers up exclusive savings to Walmart+ customers on thousands of the most commonly prescribed medications.
The program covers a wide range of prescriptions, helping you to save cash on common drugs for a massive range of health issues, including treatments for heart health, mental health, antibiotics, allergies and diabetes management. If you're already a Walmart+ member, you now have access to some medications at zero cost and tons of other prescription meds at discounts of up to 85 percent at 4,000 participating Walmart pharmacies.
Just a heads up: This isn't available in all states and can't be combined with insurance, so it doesn't hurt to check in with your local Walmart first to see what the final cost will be to you. Also, the state of California doesn't support free medications, so heavily discounted medications there are just $2.
What kind of medications are free? The diabetic drug Metformin, the anti-depressant Escitalopram and high blood pressure medications Lisinopril and Amlodipine, just to name a few.
Basically, you stand to save time and money by signing up.
Walmart+ Rx for less is just for Walmart+ users, so you'll need to subscribe to save. Not a member yet? The retail giant’s free, same-day delivery service brings fresh produce and tons of other items (batteries! pet supplies!) right to your door.
You can sign up for a risk-free 15-day trial and even score two additional free weeks if you answer a brief three-question survey. Once the 30 days are up, you can continue the service for $13 per month or $98 per year. Heads up: You won't get to enjoy the prescription medicine perks until you become a paying member.
The annual fee is similar to Amazon Prime but, unlike Prime, you can get things like fresh greens and other must-haves delivered to your door ASAP.
Rx for less also includes these perks that are already available to Walmart+ members:
Unlimited free delivery from stores. You can get items at the same price as you'd pay in the store as fast as the same day you order on more than 160,000 items, from fresh groceries and household essentials to tech and toys.
No shipping minimums for online orders. Walmart+ members also receive free next-day and two-day shipping on items shipped by the retailer, no matter what the total is. (Everyone else has to spend at least $35 on goods to get that perk.)
Mobile Scan & Go. For those times when you do decide to shop in person, you can use the Walmart app to scan your items as you shop and pay using Walmart Pay for a quick, easy and touch-free payment experience.
Fuel discounts. The perks aren't just at Walmart: You can save up to five cents a gallon on gas at nearly 2,000 Walmart, Sam’s Club, Murphy USA and Murphy Express gas stations.
With Walmart+ Rx for less, you never have to go to your local pharmacy again — and you can save money, just by signing up.
