Ryan Gosling Shares Rare Insight Into Life With Eva Mendes

Ryan Gosling opened up about his private life with Eva Mendes, and as if it wasn't clear already, the Barbie star is head-over-heels in love with the actress.

The 42-year-old spoke to GQ about his relationship with Mendes, 49, and their two kids, Esmeralda, 9, and Amada, 7, in an interview published Wednesday, May 31.

At the beginning of his conversation, Gosling suggested that he never really thought of himself as a father until “Eva said she was pregnant.” Adding, “I would never want to go back, you know? I’m glad I didn’t have control over my destiny in that way because it was so much better than I ever had dreamed for myself.”

He later backpedaled his statements and corrected himself, stating that he had thought about kids, but it wasn't until he met Mendes that he thought of himself as a father.

Though Gosling hadn't initially stated his true feelings–as he and Mendes tend to keep their love life private–he wanted to set the record straight on how he really felt about having children with the 2 Fast 2 Furious actress.

“When you asked me about Eva and kids, I think I said I didn’t think about kids until she told me she was pregnant. That’s not really true,” he admitted. “I didn’t want to overshare, but now I also don’t want to misrepresent. I mean, it’s true that I wasn’t thinking about kids before I met her, but after I met Eva, I realized that I just didn’t want to have kids without her.”

He continued: "And there were moments on The Place Beyond the Pines where we were pretending to be a family, and I didn’t really want it to be pretend anymore. I realized that this would be a life I would be really lucky to have.”

Gosling went on to say that he initially didn't say his true statements the first time because he "didn’t really want to get into it,” but he realized that he "was misrepresenting the reality of it.”

Gosling and Mendes first met in 2011 on the set of The Place Beyond the Pines and began dating shortly after. They welcomed their first child in 2014 and two years later announced the arrival of a second daughter. While the two are notoriously one of the most private couples in Hollywood, this past fall, Mendes seemingly confirmed the two are married.
