Ryan Reynolds & Blake Lively’s Daughter James May Be Breaking a Rule This Halloween — & We Can’t Stop Laughing
Rules seem to go out the window on Halloween. It’s the one night of the year when parents let their kids stay up past their bedtime, eat tons of candy, and encourage pranks, costumes, and all things spooky! But this year, there is a major rule for many Hollywood stars — and from the sound of things, Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively’s 8-year-old daughter James might be breaking it.
Amid the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strike, the union asked members to be careful to “celebrate Halloween this year while also staying in solidarity” with the strike, per Variety. They added that members should “dress up as characters from non-struck content, like an animated TV shows.” Examples of struck content include the new Barbie movie, as well as other hits like Oppenheimer, The Bear, and Austin Butler’s Elvis.

The Deadpool star, who is a SAG-AFTRA member along with Lively, responded to Variety’s Tweet revealing his hilarious plans for his eldest daughter on Halloween. “I look forward to screaming ‘scab’ at my 8 year old all night,” he said. “She’s not in the union but she needs to learn.”
He didn’t reveal who his daughter is planning to dress up as — Barbie or Wolverine maybe? — but we can just picture Reynolds following her around the neighborhood shouting out “scab” every few minutes. It’s so ridiculous, and yet we can totally see it!

“Maybe you could dress as a bandage,” one person joked.
“Not the hero we asked for but the hero we need,” another commented.
Reynolds, who also shares Inez, 7, Betty, 4, and a baby born in Feb. 2023, often jokes about his daughters on Twitter. In fact, it used to happen so often that the Gossip Girl alum felt the need to set the record straight.
“When he says ‘my daughter,’ he’s never, ever talking about her. Everything is a completely made-up scenario,” she told Glamour in 2017. “He’ll run them by me sometimes just to make me laugh. But oh, I’m so in love with him when he writes that stuff. I mean, I’m in love with him most of the time, but especially with that.”
But at the end of the day, the Red Notice star is serious about spending time with his kids. “It’s genuine when I say I take a huge interest in their days and how things are going,” he told PEOPLE earlier this month. “For me, the best time of my day is walking them to school and walking them back. I think as parents, we are so much better equipped to handle the rigors of childhood through our kids now than when I was a kid. It’s just totally different now. People are much more self-aware.”
Reynolds may not actually scream at his daughter all night on Halloween, but just in case, James could dress up as Taylor Swift or Travis Kelce instead!
