Ryan Reynolds Is Working on an Unexpected ‘Home Alone’ Adaptation
One of your favorite childhood movies is getting a grown-up makeover. Fox is reportedly working on a Home Alone reimagining called Stoned Alone, and it’s being produced by the current R-rated humor king himself, Ryan Reynolds.
According to Deadline, Stoned Alone will follow a twenty-something burnout who misses his flight for his ski holiday. As he settles in to make the best of a bad situation and partakes in his vice of choice, he starts to get paranoid that people are trying to break into his house, only to realize that — much like the original — there are actually robbers on the premises.
The remaining plot seems to take a page straight out of the Kevin McCallister playbook as the stoner works to stop the criminals in their tracks and defend his home. The Reynolds-produced adaptation will be directed by newcomer Augustine Frizzell and written by Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider.
Reynolds has been bulking up his producer credits in recent years, getting the title on both of his Deadpool features, as well as the upcoming live-action Pokémon movie.
The original Home Alone, released in the 1990 holiday season, starred Macaulay Culkin as 8-year-old Kevin McCallister, who was mistakenly left behind at home by his family when they went to Paris for Christmas. It went on to become an enduring Christmas classic, spawning two sequels and turning Culkin into a superstar. So far, no casting news or release date has been set for Stoned Alone.
