Sail Portsmouth seeks high school students for 2024 Sea Challenge Program

PORTSMOUTH — Sail Portsmouth is accepting applications for the 2024 Sea Challenge, a program offering high school students a unique chance to live aboard the historic, 137-foot, three-masted schooner Denis Sullivan for one week. This immersive experience, running from July 19-26, 2024, will allow participants to acquire maritime skills, foster teamwork, enhance collaboration, and build confidence. The Sea Challenge is more than a sailing program; it is a life-changing journey that equips young people with skills and memories that will last a lifetime.

During the Sea Challenge, students will engage in hands-on sailing activities, including navigation, sail handling, and deck duties. They will also participate in team-building exercises designed to promote effective communication and leadership skills. The program aims to provide an educational and adventurous environment, encouraging personal growth and resilience.

It's an unforgettable adventure that transforms lives. We see students emerge with newfound confidence and a deeper understanding of the value of teamwork."

The program is open to students from diverse backgrounds, with scholarships available to ensure accessibility for all interested youths. Sail Portsmouth ensures all interested students can participate, regardless of financial means. Families are asked to pay as much as they are able. Sail Portsmouth also welcomes donations to help offset the cost of the program for students. The Sea Challenge costs $1,900 per student for the week which includes tuition, room and board. Any students who are part of The KEY Collective can participate in the Sea Challenge for only $100 for the week.
