I went through a phase where I would only buy a new piece of clothing if it was black, brown, or beige; if you’re like my maximalist mom, you’re probably thinking, “How boring!” Meanwhile, she was opting for patchwork heels, hot pink trousers, and banana-yellow tops. She eventually led me to the dark side — or, bright side — and showed me how fun bold fashion could be. Salma Hayek seems to be in agreement, as she recently demonstrated the ease of a statement wardrobe piece.

At Milan Fashion Week, Hayek wore a quarter-sleeve top, chunky boots, and woven handbag accented by a gold, husk-like top handle. Though, the star of the show was undoubtedly her leopard-print midi skirt that included an A-line silhouette.

Standards and Practices’ plus-size skirt captures Hayek’s look to a T, including a high-rise, satin material, and free-flowing silhouette. The central gold color provides a statement backdrop to the exotic animal print and pairs nicely with hues like black, teal, and lavender. Raincol’s $25 leopard-print skirt on the other hand offers a more neutral option while still channeling Hayek’s look. A column profile elongates the figure while an elastic waistband lends itself to all-day wear. The expensive-looking fabric takes any outfit up a notch, plus, it’s available in burnt orange, green, pink, and white.

While leopard print may seem daunting, it’s simpler to style than you’d think. The key is pairing your new skirt with one solid color, whether it be soft and versatile or loud and daring. Hayek opted for black, while other celebrities like Gwen Stefani, Gigi Hadid, and Kate Perry have dressed the cat print up with denim blue, lemon yellow, and cherry red. This lets the pattern shine on its own without much effort, creating the illusion of lots of fashion hard work — but I won’t spill your new favorite style hack.

Leopard print skirts can also be as classy or casual as you want. Wear the unique bottom with slender knee-high boots and a scoop-neck bodysuit for a meet-the-parents kind of attire, or consider a hot pink sweater and comfy pair of sneakers for a laid-back look. As long as you feel confident, then you know you’ve done it right.
