Salvatore Ferragamo Pre-Fall 2021

Elevated comfort is how Paul Andrew described his pre-fall collection for the Salvatore Ferragamo brand. A carefully edited collection, it was 50 percent smaller that the same season’s lineup presented last year.

Sometimes reducing and focusing can summon a stronger message and it’s actually what happened with this collection, which oozed luxurious ease and honored the brand’s heritage, Andrew extensively used upcycled leather to craft a range of timeless, impeccable pieces that transcended seasons and telegraphed authentic luxury.

Among the covetable designs were trench coats with roomy, yet light silhouettes to cinch at the waist with coordinated belts; precise shirtdresses with graphic pockets; an intarsia maxiskirt rendered in an archival geometric pattern, and a flared skirt worn with a sporty bomber with recycled nylon details. All were done up in a charming palette of different tones of blue, lilac, purple, as well as white and black.

To convey extreme airiness, the designer also played with lightweight fabrics such as chiffon and georgette for pleated dresses and skirts, the latter worn with knitted polos and leggings, or a mannish safari jacket.

The concise lineup felt highly appropriate not only for the peculiar moment we are experiencing, but also for the brand itself. Instead of walking on the fashion tightrope, Andrew focused on a concept of timeless luxury that suits the Florentine luxury accessories house.
