Sam Asghari Talks Miscarriage, Reveals How He Proposed to Britney Spears
Just a few weeks after he and fiancée Britney Spears lost their unborn child, Sam Asghari is sharing his thoughts on the heartbreaking incident and looking forward, into his future with the singer.
"We're positive about it," he tells GQ in a new interview which took place one day after the two announced the sad news.
"It's something that happens to a lot of people. And one beautiful thing that I heard was when the baby's ready, it'll come," Asghari continues. "So that was a beautiful thing somebody had said was, it's a common process and the female body is just so amazing, and just the human body in general is so beautiful that it heals itself. And that when the baby's ready it'll be the right time."
Asghari and Spears first revealed they were expecting their first child together in April, with Spears joking at the time that she initially thought her baby bump was a food baby. Soon after, both she and Asghari shared how excited they were to become parents (Spears for the third time, Asghari for the first).
Asghari tells GQ that despite the pain of their recent miscarriage, he is still hopeful that he and Spears will expand their family, and he's eager to be "a young father."
He's also excited to finally wed the "Oops!... I Did It Again" singer following six years of dating. Ashari proposed to Spears in September 2021 inside their home, and designed the ring himself, with the help of a jeweler. "It's a princess cut, for a real life princess," he says.
"We do have videos of it but that's only for our eyes," Asghari says of the proposal, adding that she initially thought he was giving her a puppy, so she was shocked when he asked her to marry him.
He says he didn't tell anyone about the proposal before it happened, and he made sure every part of the day honored their relationship and nothing more. "I figured with her taste, she wouldn't want something super big and super celebrity. Celebrities get that million-dollar ring. And usually, it's free because it's for promotion, but I want it to represent something. I want it to come from my heart and I want it to go to someone that wasn't a big jeweler. It was a big company but it was a company that was willing to do it the way that I wanted it," he says of the ring.
The wedding date is set, he tells GQ, and he knows what he’s wearing, but he won't reveal any other details. What he does say is that though he and Spears are still grieving their miscarriage, their life together is wonderful.
"Nothing in the world that can take me off that path," he says. "My life is too amazing to be able to take my mind off optimism and positivity and all that."
