Sam Heughan Takes Fans Inside the Start of Filming on 'Outlander' Season 8
Sam Heughan
Last week we learned that the second half of Season 7 of Outlander would be returning to STARZ in November. Now, Sam Heughan, who plays Jamie Fraser on the romantic, time-travel epic, has revealed more good news with the release of a video showing that Season 8 of the series based on the novels by Diana Gabaldon has begun filming.
It opens with Sam and Caitríona Balfe (Claire Fraser) entering the set and Sam joking that there have been a lot of rewrites, so much so that he doesn’t think that Caitríona is in it anymore.
Despite his joking, Caitríona tells Sam, “I couldn’t have picked a better person to be dragged through time with.”

We hear from their fellow cast members Sophie Skelton (Brianna Fraser McKenzie), Richard Rankin (Roger McKenzie) and John Bell (Young Ian), who comments on how far he’s come from day one. In fact, they’re all taking a look back at their Outlander journeys.

Then showrunner/executive producer Matthew B. Roberts says, “We’ve created a family, and our legacy is going to carry on for years and years.”
Sam’s post reads: “We have begun shooting Season 8 @outlander_starz. There are so many mixed emotions, I don’t know if I have the words to describe how it feels to be finishing this journey but I’m so very happy to be back with our incredibly hard working cast and crew. Our family. It’s going to be our strongest season yet! ????”

Season 8—with its 10 episodes—will most likely be adapted from books eight and nine—Written in My Own Heart's Blood and Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone, respectively—but Gabaldon is currently working on book 10, which may or may not wrap up the love story of Jamie and Claire Fraser. But she has given input to Roberts for Season 8. In fact, she’s writing a script for the eighth and final season.
What we can generally predict for Season 8 is that the Revolutionary War will be in full swing. Jamie and Claire will be caught up in it in some form or another, Roger and Brianna will have come back from the future trying to find their place in the 18th century, and Young Ian will either be married or engaged.
