Sarah Ferguson Weighs in on Ex Prince Andrew's 'Demise'

The Duchess of York addressed her ex-husband's fall from grace during a 'Good Morning America' appearance this week.

Sarah Ferguson is sharing a bit about her experience witnessing the downfall of her ex-husband, Prince Andrew, who has been surrounded by scandal in recent years.

While appearing on Good Morning America Tuesday to promote her new book, A Most Intriguing Lady, the Duchess of York was asked to give her two cents on Andrew's very public fall from grace, which she referred to as his "demise."

As we know, the Duke of York came under scrutiny in 2019 after reports of connection to since-convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein surfaced. He was later sued by Epstein trafficking victim Virginia Giuffre, who claimed she was sexually assaulted by the royal when she was a minor in 2001. The lawsuit, filed in 2021, was eventually settled outside of court in February of last year, though Andrew was stripped of his royal patronages and military titles as a result of the case.

During her GMA interview on Tuesday, March 7, Ferguson opened up about watching the controversy around her disgraced ex-husband after correspondent Juju Chang broached the subject, asking, "You've been divorced for many, many years, and yet you've been Andrew's rock...What's it been like watching him go through this withering public scrutiny?"

"So sad, so sad," the 63-year-old responded. "We've been there for each other—you know, when I've gone through really bad times in the past, Andrew's always been there."

Ferguson—who shares daughters Princess Beatrice, 34, and Princess Eugenie, 32, with Andrew—went on to say, "He is exceptionally kind, and he is a very, seriously good grandfather. He's very steadfast for the girls."

"We are women that also have had to see the demise of a very strong man, and that has been really difficult to see," she added.

Also during her interview, Ferguson said Andrew's scandals actually brought her closer to Queen Elizabeth II, who died in September 2022. "We were his bookends during the last three years and she really was my idol. Really was my legend," she said of the late Queen.
