Sarah Jessica Parker Just Wore the Babydoll Shoe Trend That's Suddenly Everywhere

As we look back at this time in history, a lot can be understood by what shoes we were wearing. When we were all in denial that 2020 was the apocalypse, we wore shoes as normal. And when the time for acceptance came that the world may finally be ending, we all slipped into our Birkenstocks for comfort. Now, after many months of unused heels and impulse-bought ugly sandals, we appear to have entered the unexpected babydoll shoe phase.

Babydoll shoes are exactly what they sound like. They're the cute Mary-Jane flats you grew up wearing because your American Doll or Barbie influenced you to. The style started trending again recently, around the same time babydoll dresses and childlike hair accessories became cool. Apparently, dressing like a baby was comforting for millennials in times of uncertainty. So of course, it would only make sense that in the trauma that is 2020 something like babydoll shoes would resurface.

Zo? Kravitz has been wearing a pair of The Row Mary-Jane flats for the past couple weeks while out in New York. Her constant re-wearing of the same shoes, coupled with her crippling coolness, is enough to convince anyone that they need a pair — even if it's the affordable $22 option from Amazon. But if you were in need of more evidence, Sarah Jessica Parker just wore a pair of glittery Mary-Jane pumps while visiting her Manhattan flagship shoe store. Clearly she's here for the trend because she designed them herself.

So, as we somehow make our way into the second half of the year, babydoll shoes appear to be one of the only constants we have right now. But at this rate we'll take what we can get, especially if it's also designed by SJP herself.
