Sarah Jessica Parker Revives Carrie Bradshaw for Epic Super Bowl Commercial

In 2017, the hopes and dreams of Sex and the City fans everywhere (myself included) were utterly demolished when it was revealed that the much-anticipated third movie wasn't going to happen. Not ready to let Carrie Bradshaw go though, Sarah Jessica Parker decided to take matters into her own hands - and now, we have a tiny taste of what Carrie's next chapter might entail.

The Manolo Blahnik-loving character is back in a Super Bowl ad alongside Jeff Bridges (who took his jellies out of retirement to replay The Dude from The Big Lebowski). As she walks into a bar, Carrie flaunts her wacky-but-somehow-put-together outfit, iconic blonde waves, and relaxed 'tude. But when the host asks if she'd like a Cosmopolitan, Carrie says she'll take a - gasp - Stella Artois instead ... to which, we're all like:

Okay, yes, it's a beer commercial, so obviously she's not going to be opting for a Cosmo. But the greater question is why is SJP letting Carrie ditch her signature cocktail?! As Sarah tells GoodHousekeeping.com, it's all part of what she imagines Carrie would be like in today's world. While Carrie in the early 2000s may have cared more about sales at Barneys, building a closet the size of an apartment, and slurping on fancy cocktails, Carrie now would be completely different.

"Carrie [would] still be a writer, and reading, and curious about people and their relationships," Sarah Jessica Parker reveals. "But [also] someone who is excited about change and the opportunity that that brings."

As fans of the show know, Carrie before wasn't too keen on change (I mean, the girl kept her old apartment even after moving in with Big). But in SJP's mind, it's important for Carrie to, at the very least, make the switch to the Belgian beer. Because, as part of Stella’s longstanding partnership with Water.org (co-founded by Matt Damon), each Stella purchased helps give access to clean water to someone living without it. While partnering with the campaign rewrites Carrie's character in a big way, it's a sacrifice Sarah is willing to make.

"[Playing Carrie again] was really fun. It was very joyful, but I will say primarily because of this initiative," Sarah says. "It was really fun to be reminded of who she is and how she walks, but more so about her curiosity about others."

So, the main takeaway, according to Sarah, is that Carrie would be much more socially conscious these days. But 2019 Carrie aside, Sarah is still touched that SATC fans are still loving the old Carrie more than 20 years after the show first premiered.

"It's nice that there's generations coming to the program and falling in love and being inspired by the friendships and the loyalty and the sort of emotional journey that we got to tell," Sarah Jessica Parker told AOL."So it's nice to be reminded and I feel very lucky that I was part of it."
