How you can save cash and time with new rideshare program at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport

It will soon be easier for passengers to hail rideshares from electric vehicles at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

On Monday Nov. 6, Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego announced Sky Harbor will launch its Green Curb program. It will offer designated pick-up areas for electric vehicles with unique signage and markings.

The announcement came during the 2023 Airports Going Green conference, an aviation industry sustainability summit. This year’s event is taking place in Phoenix.

In a statement, Gallego said Sky Harbor is “consistently pushing the envelope” to improve environmental friendliness and the passenger experience, citing partnerships with Waymo to provide fully electric autonomous rides and Uber to discount fully electric rides to and from the airport.

The Green Curbs are identifiable by a green sign reading “Green Curb” with a lightning bolt next to the phrase. These curbs are designed to be more convenient for travelers because they are in a direct line of sight and in closer locations compared to other rideshare pickup areas, airport spokeswoman Heather Shelbrack said.

When can travelers begin using the Green Curbs at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport?

The Green Curbs are available now for Sky Harbor passengers to use for rideshare pickups and drop-offs via electric vehicles, Shelbrack said.

Where is the Green Curb at Phoenix Sky Harbor Terminal 3?

The Green Curb is available for rideshare operators at the Terminal 3 south curb and other ground transport operators, mostly pre-arranged operators with zero emission vehicles, at the Terminal 3 north curb, Shelbrack said.

In comparison, standard rideshare pickups are available in Terminal 3 via the entire south outer curb, according to Sky Harbor.

Where is the Green Curb at Phoenix Sky Harbor Terminal 4?

The Green Curb in Terminal 4 is located on the south curb, Level 1 for rideshare operators and the north curb for other ground transport operators, Shelbrack said.

In comparison, standard rideshare pickups are available on the north and south outer curbs on Level 1.

Who can I get a ride from via the Phoenix airport’s Green Curb?

Rides are available from any rideshare provider that offers EV programs, Shelbrack said.

Uber launched a program in June called Uber Green, where people who hail a ride on a fully electric vehicle can save 40% off the $4.75 per ride surcharge that Sky Harbor charges Uber to pick up and drop off passengers.

Lyft, as part of an effort to offer an all-electric fleet by the end of 2030, is working on expanding “Green” mode on its app to more metro areas to connect more riders with EVs. Lyft announced in April that Phoenix is among 14 markets where it plans to introduce the service in the future.

Can Waymo pick me up from Phoenix airport?

Waymo’s fleet of all-electric Jaguar I-PACE vehicles offer autonomous rideshare pickups and drop-offs at Sky Harbor, but not at the terminals. They only travel to and from the 44th Street and 34th Street PHX Sky Train stations, where passengers can take the free PHX Sky Train to reach the terminals.

If Waymo expands its service to the terminals, it can use the Green Curb for pickups and drop-offs, Shelbrack said.
