Scary trails for you: Ghosts with the most at these Beaver Valley haunted attractions
Creepy creatures, mask-wielding maniacs and menacing ghouls lurk in the shadows at the Beaver Valley's popular haunted trails and haunted house attractions.
It's all in good Halloween fun, of course.
Here's a guide to help you decide where to get your fun frights.
And wouldn't you know it ... a few of them launch on Friday the 13th.
Zombies of The Corn
Where: 282 Rochester Road, New Sewickley Township.
What's there: Three Rivers Paintball presents its 12th annual Halloween season event with Friendly Startles, Gotchas Galore and Fright Levels for all ages. Everyone can board the zombie fighting vehicles to shoot paintballs at slow-moving zombies ... because who doesn’t like to shoot "live" zombies that can’t shoot back. Plus there's the Funhouse 3D, Z-Maze, spooky ghost stories around a campfire and photo op areas.
Opens: Sept. 27 for Fridays and Saturdays through Nov. 2, adding Sunday dates Oct. 13, 20 and 27.
Admission: $34.99. Hours 6:30 to 11 p.m. Midway-only tickets (minus Zombie Shoot and Maze) are $10. $5 parking donated to Boy Scout Troop 444.

Freddy's Haunts
Where: 192 McCune Road, Independence Township.
What's there: The O.G. (original ghosthouse?) of Beaver County fright sites, the family-operated Freddy's offers an immersive, all-enclosed haunted house deep in the woods, "filled with the monsters from your worst nightmares. Admission includes the nightly bonfire.
Opens: Sept. 13. Hours are 7:30 to 10:30 p.m.
Costs: $18-$20; VIP is $35. Midway admission only is $5.

Beastly Haunted Trail
Where: Behind the Beaver County Humane Society, 3394 Brodhead Road, Center Township.
What's there: A walking trail through the woods, with fun frights and scream-inducing scares from horror-themed sets and costumed actors in this nonprofit fundraiser for the Beaver County Humane Society.
Open: Sept. 27 for every Friday and Saturday through October.
Cost: $15 general admission in advance or in person. Children 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

The Windmill Haunted Mini Golf
Where: 2142 Brodhead Road, Hopewell Township.
What: An 18-hole miniature golf course with ghostly, ghoulish decorations and glow-in-the-dark golf balls.
Opens: Sept. 21 at 6 p.m. and runs through Oct. 31. Hours are 3-9 p.m. Monday through Fridays and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

Karts in The Dark
Where: Three Rivers Karting Entertainment Park, Leetsdale.
What's there: Trunk-or-Treat at Karts in the Dark, 6-9 p.m. Oct. 23. For this first-time event, the Go-Kart track will become a spooky trick-or-treat trail. Set pieces include "The Graveyard," “The Bat Cave" and "The Spider-Web." With the help of Syndicate Car Club and other car club groups, there also will be trick-or-treating fun outside with multiple cars on display decked out in spooky season style with sweet treat pitstops. Inside on the track, Daryl the Skeleton and other Halloween characters will hand out candy. There's also axe throwing and a zombie-themed arcade game area.
Phantom Fall Fest
Where: Kennywood Park, West Mifflin.
What's there: Kennywood's signature spooky-season event takes screams to the extreme with six haunted houses and four scare zones. Come early for family-friendly fun, including festive food and a unique autumn atmosphere. Plus, favorite coasters and rides run during the day.
Open: Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from Sept. 20 through Oct. 27. Hours are 6-11 p.m. Fridays, noon to 11 p.m. Saturdays; noon to 10 p.m. Sundays.

ScareHouse
Where: Last year's Pittsburgh Mills Mall location is on hiatus for 2024, but two scary offshoots look forward to scaring people this season.
There's:
"The Basement" in the former ScareHouse location, at 118 Locust St., Etna. Parking available on Butler Street. "The Basement features a series of intense, intimate and R-rated horrors that challenge the limits of fear for anyone 18 years or older and willing to sign our waiver," ScareHouse's website says.
"The Chipped Fang" and "Stalked By a Killer" are located at Bold Escape Rooms, at 2420 Penn Ave., in Pittsburgh's Strip District.
Open: The Basement opens Sept. 13 for Fridays and Saturdays through Nov. 2, adding Thursdays beginning Oct. 3 and Sundays starting Oct. 6. The escape rooms open Sept. 13 for Fridays and Saturdays through Nov. 2, adding Wednesdays starting Oct. 2; Thursdays beginning Oct. 3 and Sundays starting Oct. 6.
Cost: $19.99 general admission; $41.99 for skip-the-line privileges.

Hundred Acres Manor
Where: 100 Acres Drive, Bethel Park.
What's There: Proclaimed "Pittsburgh's Best Haunted Attraction" by HauntWorld magazine, five themed haunts/mazes span a mile and an average walk-through time of one hour,
Open: Sept. 13 Fridays through Sundays until Nov. 2 from 7 to 11:30 p.m., plus select Sundays through Thursdays from 7-10 p.m.
Cost: $30 general admission with VIP passes $40 and $65.

Haunt fans should know the FearScapes haunted house attraction in Ellwood City won't open this season.
