Back in April, ahead of the Schitt's Creek season five finale, Dan and Eugene Levy announced that the show had been renewed for its sixth and final run. Here's what we know about the last season of Schitt's Creek.

It's premiering early next year.

Pop TV (the channel Schitt's Creek airs on in America) has confirmed that season six will debut on January 7, 2020.

Filming wrapped in late June.

Co-creator Dan Levy announced that they'd finished filming with an emotional Instagram post, featuring a photo of his onscreen family's motel. "That's a wrap, friends," he wrote. "Don't think my heart has ever felt more gratitude than it did last night. Thank you to everyone who made this little show happen."

He continued, "To my family, thank you for being patient with me while I fussed over every detail, big and small, for six life changing years. To our magnificent cast and crew, I am still trying to find the words to properly describe the breadth and strength of your talents and how much you've inspired me... To our fans, you've got a season made with a whole lot of love coming your way next year. And lastly, to Prince David, long may you f*cking reign."

It's ending on Dan and Eugene Levy's terms.

The Levys explained their reasoning for ending Schitt's Creek after six seasons in a sweet message to fans, noting that the show's "final chapter" would be what the pair "had envisioned from the very beginning." Read it in full below.

To Our Dear Fans,

We are very excited to announce that Schitt’s Creek is coming back for a sixth season on CBC and Pop in 2020! We also wanted to take this opportunity to let you know that we’ve decided season six will be our last. We are so grateful to have been given the time and creative freedom to tell this story in its totality, concluding with a final chapter that we had envisioned from the very beginning. It’s not lost on us what a rare privilege it is in this industry to get to decide when your show should take its final bow. We could never have dreamed that our fans would grow to love and care about these characters in the ways that you have.

We are all so excited to begin shooting these last fourteen episodes and can’t thank you enough for the overwhelming love and generosity you’ve shown us. We hope you continue to enjoy the rest of our fifth season as we prepare to shoot our sixth!

Best Wishes and Warmest Regards,

Dan and Eugene Levy
