Another Spring Classic, another SD Worx win. This time it was Demi Vollering who took home the title on Wednesday at Dwars door Vlaanderen. In a warm-up ahead of Sunday’s Tour of Flanders, Vollering put down a move with under 10K to go that the rest of the field couldn’t answer.

Like many other SD Worx wins this season, this one was a team effort.

It seemed for a time like a two-rider breakaway of Marlen Reusser (SD Worx) and Marianne Vos (Jumbo-Visma) would stay away. Finally, with 16K to go, Reusser and Vos were caught and swallowed up by the bunch. From there, it was Attack City on the Belgian roads. A number of different attacks were launched and then quickly reeled back in.

Then came Vollering’s attack. It was swift, and initially answered by only Vos. But perhaps tired from leading earlier, Vos wasn’t able to hold the wheel. Vollering was home free with just under 10K to go.

Vollering, meanwhile, didn’t have to spend much time on the attack throughout the day. With her SD Worx teammate Reusser in the lead group for much of the latter part of the race, Vollering was content to sit on the wheels of the attackers, happy to let them do the pacemaking. When it came time for Vollering to attack, the 2022 Tour de France Femmes runner-up had plenty in the tank.

Vollering’s advantage held at 10-15 seconds for a few kilometers before it really broke open. She solo’d to the win—her second victory of the year after winning at Strade Bianche earlier in the season.

Chiara Consonni (UAE Team ADQ), last year’s winner at Dwars door Vlaanderen, won a bunch sprint to take second. Vos ended up third across the line.
