Which Season of 'The Crown' Is Nominated at Tonight's Emmys?
Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana in 'The Crown' Season 5
If you've just finished bingeing the sixth and final season of The Crown, which dropped its second part on Netflix in December 2023, you might assume that this latest installment is the one that's nominated at tonight's 75th Primetime Emmy Awards. But you would be wrong.
This evening's Emmys, which are a postponed version of the 2023 Emmys, are honoring shows that aired between June 1, 2022 and May 31, 2023, a window that now feels like an eternity ago. The larger-than-usual gap between eligibility dates and the ceremony's air-date is the result of the dual writers' and actors' strikes that shut down Hollywood for a collective five months. The 75th Primetime Emmy Awards were initially scheduled to take place on Sept. 18, 2023.
The Crown Season 5 came out in November 2022, so even if the Emmys aired as planned, the period between the introduction of Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana and the night of the event itself would have been pretty vast. But at least the show wouldn't have been over, you know? By the time Season 6 is up for its Emmys, who knows what will happen—the Princes could be back on speaking terms!
