See the 'American Idol' Contestant Who Takes Katy, Lionel and Luke to Church
Quintavious Johnson
There have been several worship leaders auditioning for American Idol’s seventh season on ABC, but none that got the emotional response from judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan the way that 21-year-old Quintavious Johnson from Franklin, Tenn., did.
Quintavious chose CeCe Winan’s “Alabaster Box” for his audition and Katy said it’s a song she grew up with having had Christian preachers for parents.
When Quintavious was done, Lionel was full of “Somebody let him go’s” and Katy waved a white tissue in surrender.

“I might even revert with that song,” Katy said. Then she asked, “Did you feel saved after hearing that?”
It was a definite yes for Luke, who said, “It’s a second baptism for me.”
Lionel jumped in then with more of a critique, telling Quintavious, “What you gave us today was just inspiring, but more important, you feel every note. Great performance.”
And then it was back to Katy, who commented, “When someone comes in and says ‘I'm a worship singer and that's my job,’ we get nervous because they usually check an obvious box, but you gave us everything in that one song, which is fantastic. There was a whole healing. There was a whole baptism for everyone.”
“There’s a realness to you and a rawness,” Luke added. “You’ve got some stories in that voice.”

It was a yes from Lionel.
Then Katy said, “You're good at this. It’s not always a card you could play. You’ve got to be a Jack of all trades in this competition. Find some more aces up your sleeve, which I'm sure you can with that voice, so it’s a yes for me."
It was also a yes for Luke, so it was unanimous that Quintavious is going to Hollywood.
Tune in to American Idol Sunday night at 8 p.m. ET on ABC, streaming next day on Hulu.
