See the 'Riverdale' Cast Playing Their Parents In The Halloween Flashback Episode
Today marks a truly momentous occasion in the Riverdale fandom. The first images of the teenage cast playing their characters’ parents, in this season’s much-anticipated flashback episode, have just dropped-and we have a lot to talk about.
Season three’s fourth episode, "The Midnight Club," will expand on the backstories of Fred, Alice, FP and Hermione via what’s being touted as a “dark spin on The Breakfast Club,” with KJ Apa, Lili Reinhart, Cole Sprouse and Camila Mendes playing their characters’ parents as teenagers. It’s pretty clear from these images that this episode is going to be A) spectacular and B) deeply, deeply weird, given how familiar we are with these actors as their established characters.
For starters, what’s going on with FP and Hermione? These two have a pretty contentious relationship in the present day, but it looks like that may not have always have been the case. There are also pictures of Fred looking pretty cozy with both Hermione and Alice, so as messy as the Archie/Veronica/Betty/Jughead quartet might occasionally have gotten last season, they’ve got nothing on their parents.
Another highlight: Madelaine Petsch is of course playing the teenage Penelope Blossom, and playing her murderous-husband-to-be Clifford? None other than Trevos Stines, who played Cheryl’s twin brother Jason. It’s good to see these two keeping the low-key incest mood alive! I’m also extremely into Alice’s whole vibe, which couldn’t be much further removed from Betty’s ponytails and preppy sweaters and must have been a fun change of pace for Lili Reinhart. Ditto Camila Mendes, since the teenage Hermione looks kind of bookish and shy.
Two weeks seems like a really, really long time to wait, but "The Midnight Club"will air on The CW on Halloween, Wednesday, October 31.
