See How This Bride Surprised Her Grandma with Her Dress
Some couples capture the first time the groom sees the bride in her dress (otherwise known as "first look" photos), but for 23-year-old hairstylist Jordyn Cleverly, her grandmother's reaction was equally important. She planned to surprise her grandma by wearing her wedding dress from 1962.
When the time came to pick someone to capture the emotional moment, Jordyn asked Kortney Peterson, a photographer who also works as a cosmetologist at Jordyn's salon. It was Kortney's first time capturing a "first look" between a bride and grandmother: an experience she told CBS was "absolutely beautiful, emotional, and amazing."
Jordyn's grandmother had no idea the dress was in her possession, so she was completely taken aback. Kortney said Jordyn's grandmother became very emotional when she realized her granddaughter had kept her dress.
"Her reaction was one of the sweetest reactions I've ever seen," Kortney said. "Tears were automatically brought to her eyes, and her grandma kept repeating, '1962....Your grandfather would have loved to see this. I married my high-school sweetheart in this and now so will you.'"
Most brides won't even say the word "rain" for fear of it ruining their big day, but when it began sprinkling as Jordyn walked out to see her grandmother, it actually made the moment more special.
"We all viewed the rain as teardrops from heaven looking down," Kortney said. "Teardrops from her grandfather. It made the moment just that much more beautiful and special."
