See How Harry Styles Paid Tribute to Queen Elizabeth at New York Concert
The crowd gave a round of applause for 70 years of service.
Harry Styles took a moment during his Madison Square Garden residency on the evening of Sept. 8 to honor the late Queen Elizabeth II.
One Twitter user, who goes by amanda j., shared a clip of the moment on the social platform, captioning it, “#HarryStyles asks fans to applaud in appreciation of Queen Elizabeth’s 70 years of service during #LoveOnTourNYC at #MSG”.
The video starts with the singer addressing the audience about the fun they’ll have together that evening, but he takes a moment before moving on with the show to pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth, after the monarch died earlier that day at age 96.
“Now, from my homeland, there’s some very sad news today,” Styles began. “The passing of Queen Elizabeth II. Please join me in a round of applause for 70 years of service.” The performer clapped along with the crowd, his hands held high above his head as he spun around to take in the entire venue.
As the noise settled down, he thanked the arena and then moved to continue the concert.
The longest-reigning queen of England died peacefully at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. Her son, King Charles III, took the reigns immediately following her death.
