See Inside 'Glee' Alum Becca Tobin's Hollywood Hills Home
Becca Tobin and her husband Zach Martin found their current Hollywood Hills home engaging in a therapeutic yet risky hobby many are into these days: Zillow surfing with no intention of moving. With the help of realtor Josh Flagg, the couple bought the home for almost $2 million a year ago and showcased the process on Bravo’s Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles. Now, Tobin—a Glee alum and co-host of the LadyGang podcast—and her husband have given the former '90s-eyesore a facelift that mixes styles to create an eclectic oasis.
“It’s a really beautifully done Spanish-style home,” Tobin tells House Beautiful. “It was built in the ‘90s but the bones were so great, so we just pulled the trigger on it.”
The couple worked with interior designer Aisling Mittman of ALM Curation to renovate the home. They focused on giving the main level cosmetic updates: Think new countertops in the kitchen, updating the light fixture in the dining room, and repainting the mantel in the formal living room. Getting these updates done professionally can be expensive, so the couple did much of the work themselves, including lime washing the walls and sanding down cabinets.
Fittingly, the home design boasts a little bit of everything—modern, traditional, revival—and captures both Tobin and Martin’s personalities. “Every home should really have that,” Mittman says. “It shouldn't look like every other house or a catalog—especially during these times when it's important to have a true sense of home.”
Living Room
“We didn’t want an all white room like every other house in Southern California,” Tobin says of the living room. For the walls and mantel, the couple used Portola Lime Wash in the color Eastwood. Originally, the walls were a yellow-white color, and the mantel was a peachy stone color. The space, along with the rest of the main level, features styled shelves and finishing touches including cool vintage pieces, ceramics, and even some of Tobin’s grandmother’s art and sculptures. Sofas: Interior Define. Burnt orange chairs: Four Hands. Throw pillows: Bolé Road Textiles, Garde, Nickey Kehoe, and vintage.
Dining Room
The massive dining room is the first space you see when you walk into the home. “We were looking at a bunch of tables, and nothing felt really special enough,” Tobin says. “So Zach’s dad and Zach’s dad’s best friend are these two incredibly handy men in Georgia who literally made our big 10 foot long dining room table from scratch.” The table is Tobin’s favorite piece in the home, because it’s the most sentimental. Along with a handmade dining table to freshen up the space, the couple ditched the dated traditional chandelier for one from Circa Lighting that’s more clean and modern without being too harsh.
Kitchen
In the kitchen, the couple highlighted the original wood beams with fresh wall and cabinet paint. They replaced the stone tile countertops with a clean white marble style. The similar dated backsplash now features shiny off-white tiles by Clé. The wood flooring was also refinished with a lighter shade that makes the space feel super polished yet homey. Entryway and Hallway
The structure of the entryway and hallway is what drew Tobin and Martin to the home. With gorgeous high ceilings and a window out to the canyon, all the reno the space needed was an update to the yellow-toned walls and accents. The walls now match the rest throughout the main level, and the Moroccan-type pendant was replaced with a sleek black one. Paint: Portola Lime Wash in the color Eastwood.
