Selena Gomez Defends Taylor Swift on TikTok of Hailey Bieber Throwing Shade and Addresses ‘Mean Girl’ Bullying

Selena Gomez is weighing in on celeb TikTok speculation that she is being bullied by “mean girls” along with the heartache and pain she endured in the public eye. Following Gomez and Kylie Jenner shutting down fan speculation that Jenner and Hailey Bieber mocked Gomez's eyebrows this week, Gomez got fan attention again for leaving comments on three more TikToks about her ex Justin Bieber's wife Hailey Bieber.

She also commented on a fourth TikTok where a user encouraged fans to leave Gomez and Hailey alone, pointing out that they would not read the mean comments left on their pages. Gomez commented, “facts,” defending herself and Hailey.

Gomez's TikTok activity got the attention of celebrity news fan account PopFaction, which first noted that Gomez defended her longtime friend Taylor Swift in a TikTok showing old footage of Hailey sticking her tongue out when Swift's album was mentioned. “So sorry, my best friend is and continues to be one of the best in the game,” Gomez commented.

On a second TikTok, Gomez expressed her gratitude for a fan sharing her sympathy for all Gomez had to endure publicly, including watching Justin marry Hailey so quickly after Gomez and Justin's nearly 10-year on-off relationship ended in spring 2018. Justin and Hailey started dating again in June 2018, got engaged in July 2018, and were married in September 2018.

The TikTok user listed out all Gomez has gone through, saying, “Does anyone just ever feel really bad for Selena Gomez? Like, can you imagine going through a breakup so publicly with a guy that you were in love with for like, seven years and then like, two months later he just marries someone? And then you have a like, chronic illness or autoimmune disease—sorry, I don’t know too much about lupus, but I can’t imagine that it’s fun—and living with that and the flareups, just having to live with it in the public eye while people are watching you and then having to deal with mental health when life is hard enough already? Honestly, kudos to her for being so brave and so public and just like, so open about her journey. But I bet if we ever walked a day in her shoes where everything is so publicized, and like you say one thing and everybody comes after you and all this stuff, like that would be so hard. So whenever I think about a hard day, I think about Selena Gomez. I feel bad saying that but if she can do it, everyone can.”

Gomez commented, “That made me cry ?? thank you!”

In her documentary My Mind and Me, Gomez said that her Justin breakup was actually the “best thing” to happen to her. “I feel like I had to go through the worst possible heartbreak ever and then just forgetting everything at the drop of a hand, it was really confusing,” she said. “But I just think that needed to happen and ultimately it was the best thing that ever happened to me.”

And on the third TikTok, a fan said she was officially supporting Gomez following all the “mean girl” bullying that fans believe Gomez is receiving from Kylie Jenner and Hailey, among others. Gomez commented “I love you” on the post defending her from the treatment she has gotten from “mean girls and nepo babies.” Notably, the user called Jenner out explicitly for her treatment of Gomez, although Gomez did not address those claims specifically.

All told, the comments mark the return of a far more active and blunt Gomez on TikTok. They also show the lengths she's going to acknowledge the treatment she has gotten while defending Hailey, Swift, and others from mean comments.
