Selma Blair dazzles on red carpet alongside service dog Scout at Emmy Nominees Night
The 52-year-old actress was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2018, and she's had her companion since 2021.
Selma Blair brought out the glam for the Emmy Nominees Night — and she wasn't alone while walking the red carpet. The 52-year-old actress attended the pre-Emmy Awards event on Friday evening alongside her Golden Retriever service dog, Scout.
While keeping her four-year-old companion on a leash in one hand, the Cruel Intentions actress rocked a black gown that grazed the floor and featured a one-shoulder strap that was connected with a metal hoop. For accessories, Blair had a metallic clutch, black sandals and round earrings, as she left her blonde bob show off effortless waves.
Blair has had Scout since December 2021, a few years after she received her multiple sclerosis (MS) diagnosis in 2018. Since having her furry companion by her side, Blair has been candid about how much Scout helps her in life.
"He was a gift to myself. ... He was a lot for companionship and a lot for mobility," Blair told Us Weekly earlier this summer. "He reminds me to take my medicine and he helps me get going. I love him dearly — and so does everybody else!"
Back when Blair officially got Scout, she shared a long Instagram caption explaining what Scout does and that it took a year-and-a-half to become a service dog team.
"Scout helps me with some personal stumbling blocks and aids in my mobility. He is an English red fox lab and is very good at his job. He is very handsome, and friendly, but if you see me and Scout, and we are working (which he really always is, as am I) then give a smile but please don’t approach. Distractions really set me back," Blair wrote in a Dec. 17, 2021 post. "I am building stamina and coordination with the aid of this special dog and training! ... If you see me down, do not worry, Scout has me covered."
Last month, Blair gave an update about her health and the status of her MS. She explained in a video that she's still in remission but is feeling great. However, she fell into a "major relapse" after a bone marrow transplant. She told Us Weekly an MRI "lit up flare" and showed "new lesions" so she had to find a new doctor.
“Thank God I found a great one here in West Hollywood, Dr. Berkovich,” Blair shared in a video, adding her doctor recommended she try a new therapy. "It was just tablets. So I took that, a couple short series of tablets, and in two years your therapy is done. It's called Mavenclad.
"It's been amazing and it helped my movement and speech so much, and it's allowed me to have a great summer, great years. I need you all to know."
