Senior Cat Who Purrs While Getting a Manicure Is Such a Vibe

Anyone who's ever tried clipping their cat's nails knows that it's pretty much the worst chore in the entire world. To say that cats don't exactly like it is an understatement. So we can only imagine how pleasantly surprised one woman must've been when she realized her senior cat sort of...loves it. Like really loves it. We guess you could say MK the cat likes to get her nails done.

The cat's mama adopted her two years ago when she was already a senior cat.

Which thankfully means she never had to deal with those early years when grooming your cat can be painful. The clip shows @seniorcatmk10 cradling her girl in her arms while she carefully clips each and every claw. As opposed to backing away and howling, MK is totally calm and serene.

"When you adopted a senior cat who purrs when you give her a manicure," the video's text overlay reads.

In fact it seems like MK is actually enjoying watching her mama cut her claws. These two have definitely bonded. And there must be such trust between these two for MK to be so at peace.

"She's such a good girl," the woman wrote in the caption.

Tips for Clipping a Cat's Nails

If you're dreading the next time you're due to clip your cats paws, there are some ways to make the process less terrible. Creating a calm and peaceful environment is a good way to start. Chose a time when your cat might already be a little groggy — like right after a meal. Make sure the room is quiet and introduce the clippers to your cat. It's probably best to set yourself up away from a window so that birds outside aren't a distraction. And make sure there are no other pets in the room for that same reason.

Get your cat used to feeling pressure on their paws. Gently massage each paw for no longer than three seconds, being mindful if he or she pulls away or gets anxious. Give their paw a little press until the claw extends out and then release. Make sure you have plenty of treats on hand too!

The sound of the clippers can also be scary for animals. Which is why you're going to want to get your cat used to the noise. Take a piece of uncooked spaghetti and repeated the massaging technique above, clip the spaghetti when the nail pokes through. Then release.

When you've done enough prep it's time to clip. Face your cat away from you, then once again take one of their claws in your fingers and massage until the nail extends through. Take a look at how much of a trim your cat really needs. The pink part of the cat's nail is called the quick and is where nerves and blood vessels are stored. Make sure to avoid the quick when snipping. Work slowly. You might not be able to get through all of your cat's nails in one sitting. One or two might suffice depending on how your cat is reacting. At the end of the "manicure" make sure to give your cat a treat. They deserve it! And voila! The perfect mani that you hopefully won't have to repeat for another ten days to two weeks.
