CLOVIS, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Senior citizens are invited to take a step back in time to watch some Hollywood classics at the Regal Clovis 8 theatre for free.

“They can have discounted snacks and they can have an enjoyable time in an air-conditioned movie theater, most importantly,” said Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer.

Mayor Dyer says this is the first time the city has introduced a movie special of this kind to the public.

“We wanted to show how much we love our seniors, and to be able to take care of our seniors and to allow them the opportunity to go to a movie theater free of charge,” he said.

The special will show all kinds of classics, every day.

“Casablanca, Singing in The Rain… some of those movies that were probably more from a generational perspective, more relatable to them,” Mayor Dyer said.

The One Fresno Foundation is the one funding the movie special. The special is being held at the Regal 8 in Clovis.

“We’re not checking ID, we’re not going to embarrass people in terms of proving how old they are, but we just want people to take advantage of going to the movies free, getting out of the heat and enjoying their day,” said Dyer.

For now, the free movie special will run for two weeks, but if the heat continues, the special will run longer.
