Senior Health and Wellness Day at Waterford Crossing

May 29—GOSHEN — A senior health and fitness day event was held at Waterford Crossing Senior Living Wednesday morning.

This event included booths set up with information and screening services available, as well as a lunch and learn complete with a presentation.

"We have a group of seniors in this community that are very eager to learn and to try and do things to better their life and to live a better life as they age, and so it's exciting for us to be able to offer them those types of opportunities," said Lisa Zollinger, director of sales at Waterford Crossing.

Before lunch, the rehab department provided swallow testing and balance testing. Some other vendors present included Boling Eye Center, Paragon Therapy, Firefly Home Care Services and Elkhart County Health Department Goshen Home Care and Hospice.

Maddie Kozlowski, Community Health Worker from the Elkhart County Health Department, gave the presentation at this event regarding, "Positive Health Behaviors to Live Your Best Life.

"My goal is to get people connected to resources throughout the county they need just to live healthy lives so not only just at the health department but across the county," Kozlowski said. "This is my first time doing a senior wellness day, which is really awesome because I get to work with one specific population and just help people connect to the resources they need."

The Alzheimers and Dementia Services of Northern Indiana was another vendor that was sharing information.

"Our primary goal is to provide support in many different ways to caregivers out there of those living with dementia, and we do that by providing support groups, education both in person and online, memory screen, family consultations, and whatever we can do really to help them out and connect them with community resources," said Joe Collins, program manager.

The main goal of Waterford Crossing Senior Living is to be a good resource for the community.

"We always want people to know that if they are having someone, a loved one in their family, or a friend that's having issues with memory and dementia, that we're here to offer them support and find ways for them to manage that," Zollinger said.
