Serena Williams is triumphant in lavender tutu for second U.S. Open win
In her second match at the U.S. Open, Serena Williams was victorious once again, this time wearing a lavender asymmetrical leotard and skirt by Nike and Off-White.
This is the tennis champion’s second look from the highly anticipated collaboration between the two brands, and it comes at an especially poignant time: following the “catsuit ban” by French Tennis Federation president Bernard Giudicelli, who said to Tennis magazine about the outfit Williams wore at the French Open in May, “It will no longer be accepted. One must respect the game and the place.” Monday evening, in her debut at this year’s U.S. Open, she wore a black-and-brown one-shoulder silhouette dress with a tulle skirt.
Despite this controversy, Williams twirled on the tennis court Wednesday after winning her match against German player Carina Witth?ft. It was a win that will pit the Williams sisters against each other in the next round — Serena will play Venus.
Although it might be a bit mystifying how Serena is able to play so beautifully wearing an asymmetrical leotard and a tutu, the 23-time Grand Slam winner continues to defy the odds and show us she is capable of whatever she can imagine — and, as one Twitter user said, “She can wear *anything*.”
The Queen Collection tutu look has become her signature look during this U.S. Open, and there will likely be more to come. And fans are loving it…
