A new Sex and the City follow-up show is coming, and it’s giving us major Golden Girls vibes

Even though it seems Sex and the City 3 is officially a no-go, we can’t help but feel pangs of nostalgia for our favorite Cosmo-drinking characters from time to time. If you’re still obsessed with re-watching the original series on reruns, we have incredible news for you: There’s a new book and TV series on the way from Sex and the City author Candace Bushnell, and tbh, it sounds even better than the original.

Back in March, Deadline reported that the hit HBO series is getting a follow-up, with Bushnell releasing a book called Is There Still Sex in the City?, slated for release on August 6th. If that’s not exciting enough, the novel was already given the green light for a television series, and this story has an age inclusive twist.

The Sex and the City follow-up will chronicle New York City women in their 50s and 60s as they navigate “love and life from all angles—marriage and children, divorce and bereavement, as well as the very real pressures on women to maintain their youth and have it all,” according to Deadline.

Of course, SATC ended in 2004 after six seasons and received two spin-off films, as well as a prequel series, The Carrie Diaries. It remains a pop culture phenomenon…even if it hasn’t always aged well.

It’s true that women’s stories beyond a certain age aren’t told often enough, so we’re excited to see this on-screen. Here’s hoping the new iteration will improve upon the original, including diverse stories and characters and even more progressive attitudes toward sex.

We can’t wait to read Bushnell’s new book, which arrives just in time for those last hazy weeks of summer. As for the television series, we’ll have to wait for more info, so dust off your Manolos and stay tuned.
