The Sexy Bathroom Trend We Didn’t See Coming

Updated

Wicker whisks us off to Bahamian holidays. Chintzy florals transport us to the English countryside. And our latest design obsession makes us feel like we’ve been granted admittance to a swanky members-only club. (Well, at least to its bathroom.) Behold, the latest in loo fabulosity: Croc-embossed wallpaper.

Sumptuous and edgy—while still classic—faux crocodile bathrooms have taken over our Instagram feeds, social calendars and curiosities this spring. If you’ve long pined for a super-sexy bathroom, this one’s for you, babe.

A MODERN MIX

Amidst the gorgeous Ken Fulk-designed interiors at Legacy Records, the crown jewel was this glamorous indigo crocodile bathroom. The key to keeping such a bold choice from feeling too extreme? Mix with similarly luxe textures, like veiny marble and aged brass.

TEXTURE PLAY

We also love this toned-down rendition by Drake/Anderson for the 2018 Kips Bay Showhouse: Thanks to a matte, sueded finish, and only half a wall's worth of papering, the look is less Animal Kingdom and more sophisticated abode.

LOOKS EXPENSIVE...

Not necessarily: Most of today’s options (like Formica’s, above) are made of affordable materials like embossed vinyl or recycled leather—and pricing is comparable to standard wallpapers. Plus, many are paintable, meaning you can keep the texture but switch your color scheme. Fabulous, indeed.
