'Shame on you!': Tori Spelling fires back at trolls who called her kids 'raggedy' and 'unfit' in back-to-school photo
Tori Spelling was one of countless parents sending kids back to school this week, a moment she documented with a sweet Instagram photo. But while most proud parents’ back-to-school posts are getting “likes” and upbeat comments, Spelling is being mom-shamed.
After the former Beverly Hills, 90210 star shared a photo of her and husband Dean McDermott’s four oldest children — Liam, 11, Finn, 6, Stella, 10, and Hattie, 6 — some commenters criticized the kids’ appearance.

“These kids definitely look RAGGEDY,” one troll wrote. “Just plain ridiculous. All four need a makeover. Sorry to say but it’s real.”
Other commenters picked on their outfits, including Liam’s Dungeons & Dragons T-shirt, which Spelling noted was from Target. One critic said they looked “disheveled and not entirely happy,” while another remarked that they appeared to have “just rolled out of bed and put on what was on the floor.”
The cruelest comments, however, were aimed at the kids’ bodies. Trolls accused Spelling, who is also mom to 18-month-old son Beau, of letting her kids get “fat” and “unfit.”
“For a woman whose mother pays her rent and food and school bills, and who doesn’t have a job, how are you unable to at least make sure their clothes are ironed?” one mom-shamer wrote. “You’re an awful mother and Dean is as big a deadbeat as there ever was. Please stop having kids, you are failing so miserably with the ones you’ve got. Also, the two eldest are obese. Maybe get on top of that before it’s too late.”
The actress did have many supporters pushing back against the nasty feedback.
“I don’t see anything wrong with these beautiful children,” a fan wrote in defense of Spelling. “They look like perfectly happy, healthy, and normal children. They are dressed like every other child. Tori, you have a beautiful family. You should be proud and it’s nice to see that your children are being raised to be down to earth and not all dolled up for the press.”
“Your children are lovely,” wrote another supporter. “Shame on ALL the awful people who dared to say otherwise! You are a good momma, and your love and devotion for your family continues to shine in all that you post.”
Spelling herself addressed the bullying in a follow-up statement.
“I am a proud mama bear and I enjoy sharing our family journey with my family, friends, fans, and online supportive and loyal community,” she wrote. “And thank you to all the #mamabears out there. We always have each other’s backs! For all the individuals on here that felt the need to #momshame and #kidshame me and my children I say, ‘Shame on you!’
“I was raised to believe that if you can’t say anything nice about someone then don’t say anything at all. The judgment here should be on your manners. Empowerment goes both ways. Lift others up and you in turn lift yourself up.”
