Shania Twain Shares Support for Celine Dion Amid 'Horrifying' Health Battle
Shania Twain is sharing her support to Celine Dion as the fellow Canadian icon battles neurological disorder Stiff-Person Syndrome.
In an interview with Billboard, Twain gushed, "I'm such a fan of Celine's voice. She's a one-of-a-kind, extraordinary vocalist and entertainer."
She noted how difficult it must be for Dion to face this health issue, saying, "I hope to be able to connect with her at some point. I think it's gotta be so difficult, and I know — only speaking from my experience — how horrifying it is to think that something is preventing you from singing, or interfering with that joy in your life."
Twain then expressed her hopes that Dion is able to recover, sharing, "So I just pray that she is able to overcome it and she will be up there [on stage] singing for us all again."
Dion first spoke about her health issues in an emotional video shared on Instagram last December.
"As you know, I've always been an open book and I wasn't ready to say anything before, but I'm ready now," the 55-year-old told fans while getting misty-eyed. "I've been dealing with problems with my health for a long time and it's been really difficult for me to face these challenges and to talk about everything that I've been going through."
Dion explained, "I have been diagnosed with a very rare neurological disorder called the Stiff-Person Syndrome, which affects something like one in a million people. While we're still learning about this rare condition, we now know this is what's been causing all of the spasms that I've been having."
She detailed how the disorder affects her career, noting, "Unfortunately, these spasms affect every aspect of my daily life, sometimes causing difficulties when I walk and not allowing me to use my vocal cords to sing the way I'm used to."
