Shannen Doherty Overcome With Emotion During Standing Ovation at 90s Con Amid Cancer Battle
Shannen Doherty has had a tough journey battling cancer so far, but fans are behind her every step of the way.
The 52-year-old attended 90s Con in Tampa, Florida on Sept. 17 with the rest of the Beverly Hills, 90210 cast, and during a panel about the show, the audience showed their appreciation for Doherty with a standing ovation.
In a video from the event shared by USA Today, near the end of the panel, someone said to Doherty, "Shannen, I know I speak on behalf of this crew, on behalf of all of these people, how happy we are to see you here."
Everyone immediately started cheering, with someone in the crowd shouting, "We love you, Shannen!" As the audience stood up and clapped, the rest of the Beverly Hill, 90210 cast soon followed. Doherty covered her eyes as tears fell before gesturing for the crowd to take a seat.
Doherty responded to the moment, as reported by People, "Thank you so much. You guys know how much I love crying constantly. And I do, it seems. So, thank you." She went on, "I have a fight for my life, that I deal with every day. I think I am really great."
Doherty also showed off her sense of humor, saying, "My other profession is getting engaged, married and divorced, and I'm doing that very well." She split from her third husband, Kurt Iswarienko, in April. They were married for 11 years.
The actress was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, with Doherty ending treatment in 2017. Then, in 2020, she announced that the cancer had returned. She currently has stage 4 breast cancer that spread to her brain, as she revealed in an emotional video earlier this year. Doherty is still undergoing treatment.
At 90s Con, Doherty was joined by fellow Beverly Hills, 90210 cast members Tori Spelling, Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, Ian Ziering, Brian Austin Green and Gabrielle Carteris, who all gathered to celebrate the legacy of the show.
