Shaquille O'Neal Explains What Led to His 55-Pound Weight Loss
Shaquille O'Neal revealed his impressive weight loss in a new interview.
When the former NBA superstar was preparing for his hip surgery in the spring, he mentioned on The Big Podcast with Shaq that he was trying to lose 30 pounds during his recovery time, aiming for an eight pack and to "get shredded." Turns out O'Neal wasn't joking .
In a chat with ET's Nichelle Turner, he shared that he's lost an astounding 55 pounds this year.
The 51-year-old's current weight is at 351 pounds, which is close to his weight from when he won the first NBA championship with the Lakers in 2000, where he weighed around 345 pounds. His new goal is to "get between 315 and 330."
O'Neal shared that he set "crazy goals" for his physique was after being unhappy with his appearance.
"I was getting chubby and couldn't even walk up the stairs. I didn't like the way I looked in the mirror," he said. "I was like, 'I'm gonna lose 20' and then I was trying to lose 20." He noted that he currently has a "a little 4.9 pack" and wants to eventually get to the eight pack he had previously aimed for.
The Lakers legend-turned-DJ gave a glimpse at his weight loss journey in early August, sharing a video on Instagram of himself working out shirtless while flexing his toned muscles. He captioned the clip, "in my former life i was @philheath we almost there @rocshabazz that @novexbiotech #gf9 baby."
