'Shark Tank’s Barbara Corcoran Claims Controversial Advice Is Secret to Long Marriage
Barbara Corcoran
Barbara Corcoran opened up about an unconventional sleeping arrangement that she credits with keeping her long-lasting marriage "fun."
While appearing on the Thursday, March 28, episode of the Today show, the 75-year-old Shark Tank judge revealed that she and her husband, Bill Higgins, each have their own bedroom.
“I’ve had a separate bedroom with Bill for like 40 years,” she told hosts Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager. “I have to invite him in, he invites me in occasionally.”
"It keeps the sexiness in the whole thing," she added.
While the dual bedroom situation may seem controversial to some, she's not the only celeb to come forward and say that they sleep separately from their spouse. Along with Corcoran, Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden sleep separately, as does Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith, Victoria and David Beckham, Gwyneth Paltrow and Brad Falchuk, among others who have made similar claims.
For the businesswoman and entrepreneur, though, there was a very specific reason for choosing to have a separate bedroom from Higgins, whom she married in 1988.
When Kotb inquired about why the entrepreneur "decided to do that [have separate bedrooms] initially," Corcoran explained that it has to do with other habits the spouses seemingly can't agree on.
“He puts piles of stuff everywhere and I am very neat so I couldn’t sleep well at night,” she shared. “Now, I sleep like a baby.”
The couple's sleeping arrangement isn't the only nontraditional strategy they've employed over the years, as Corcoran confessed that when it came to getting engaged she was the one to propose to Higgins.
"I wanted to get a husband so I said, ‘What the heck!'”
