Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello dated for two years before they broke up in November 2021, and the former couple has since spoken up about how they're moving forward from the end of their romance. Shawn took to Instagram to tease a new song that sounds like it may allude to his relationship with Camila. "I don't want to know what it's like when you're gone / I don't want to move on," he sings while playing some notes on the piano.

During the same session, the 23-year-old Toronto native also opened up about the inspiration behind the lyrics. "A lot of the thing that also is like resonating in the lyric for me is like, 'Oh f--k.' You don't realize when you're breaking up with someone, you like, think it's the right thing. You don't realize all the sh-t that comes after it," he said.

"Which is like, 'Who do I call when I'm like in a panic attack? Who do I call when I'm like f---ing, on the edge?' and I think that's the reality that kind of hit me, 'Oh, I'm on my own now.' Now I feel like I'm finally like, I'm actually on my own. And I hate that. That's my reality, you know?" the "In My Blood" singer continued.

While promoting her latest single, "Bam Bam," in a March 2022 interview with Apple Music's Zane Lowe, Camila also described the inspiration behind her new music and how her "priorities fluctuated" after the break up. "My priorities have fluctuated and my focus has changed throughout my life," she said. "Those years that we were dating, I don't even feel like, even while I was writing this album, and even still now, I guess, my focus is really on, how can I be a well-rounded person?"

"And same thing with those years that we were together," the Fifth Harmony alumna continued. "My focus was just, how can I live a happy life and be in a healthy, happy relationship? I was doing therapy a lot. My focus really has shifted...I think as I get older, yeah, the priorities shift. And I feel like that was that way for both of us. Because we both started so young too, we're really learning how to be healthy adults. And that sometimes means not having your number one focus be your career. And that's okay."

The former couple started out as friends in 2015 before they eventually dated in 2019. Based on their social media interactions and walking their dog Tarzan together, it seems like these two are still on good terms. They have yet to comment on their current relationship status.
