Shelters Are Already Seeing Christmas Puppies Being Returned and It's Heartbreaking
People need to understand that pets are family.
It might have been 'the most wonderful time of the year' for people, but for the new puppies and dogs given as gifts this year, it's quite possibly the scariest. Although a lot of these new furry family members are loved just as much as their gifter would hope, there are always going to be some who end up in the wrong situation. And that means they'll end up at the shelter.
For the TikToker and shelter employee who goes by @khantheedane, making a video to showcase this unfortunate phenomenon was a no-brainer. We're so glad she's making this PSA--because it seems like this happens every year!

Poor little baby! We can't believe such a tiny puppy was surrendered--let alone so soon after the holidays. In fact, this little one is so young that they can't even be put up for adoption yet! When @cattledogspam commented, "Omg I bet he will find a home quickly. Poor baby," @khantheedane replied, "She has to go to foster first too young to adopt out." Clearly, this precious girl was taken from her mother too early, too. She's only one month old!
"And it’s ALWAYS ALWAYS [backyared breeder] gift pets that are given back to shelters. So sad," @chronically_chlo wrote. While we can't confirm this pup's origin story, we do admit that something doesn't seem right. We just hope this is the end of her difficult days!
If she's lucky, she'll end up with an owner who feels exactly like @emily86864 does. She said, "I can't. If my dog is in a shelter I died and everyone I thought cared about me lied." Exactly!
