What deals are available on Prime Day?

Thousands of deals are available on Amazon Prime Day, which runs Tuesday, July 16, at 12:01 a.m. PDT, through today, Wednesday, July 17, at 11:59 p.m. PDT. There will be discounts on products from all categories, so whether you're looking for beauty products, home goods, kitchen appliances, or fan-favorite electronics, there are sure to be plenty of items on sale.

If you've been waiting on a price drop on a product you've been coveting, there are a couple of things you can do to ensure that you stay on top of sales without constantly monitoring the product page.

Download the Amazon app to create deal alerts for specific products. These come through as push notifications, once the Prime Day sales event begins. You can also add a product to your Amazon cart or Wish List and then enable Alexa to alert you of a deal—up to a full day ahead of when the deal will go live. She can then remind you when it's live or make the purchase automatically.

What time does Amazon Prime Day start?

Amazon Prime Day officially started Tuesday, July 16, at 12:01 a.m. PDT. However, it ends tonight at 11:59 p.m. PDT.

Is Prime Day only for Prime members?

Yes. To score Prime Day deals, you must be an Amazon Prime member. You can sign up for Prime membership anytime, including during the 2-day sale, for $14.99 monthly or a one-time annual fee of $139. If you want to try out a Prime membership before committing, you can try a free 30-day trial—just remember to cancel before the window ends.

Hot tip for students (ages 18 to 24): Try Amazon Prime Student with a 6-month free trial, followed by a discounted membership fee of $7.49 monthly or $69 annually.

Other tips for Prime Day shopping

Once you have a product that you're looking at buying, you'll want to read customer reviews. You can use sites like Fakespot to weed out fake reviews—it's as simple as adding a free extension to your Chrome browser. Fakespot will give a product an A to F grade directly on its Amazon product page and bases this grade on the reliability of existing reviews. Not only can you use Fakespot on Amazon.com, but it also works at other retailer sites like Best Buy, Walmart, and Sephora.

Next, you'll want to pop your product into a Google search online and compare pricing at other retailers to see where Amazon's price lines up. This is a good way to determine if you're actually getting the best deal of the day—you may find, say, Walmart, listing your product with a deeper discount. Just because it's Amazon Prime Day, doesn't mean Amazon is the only retailer with ongoing sales.

You can also download price tracking tools to help you get the best deal out there. The Camelizer, from camelcamelcamel.com, and Keepa are both free Chrome extensions you can download. They track price history from both Amazon and third-party sellers and allow you to create price watches for price drops.

However, to truly determine whether or not you are saving money, you'll want to figure out what the MSRP is for your product. You can do so by comparing the sticker price on Amazon to the original manufacturer's site. This will show you your true savings.
