Shoppers Say These Legendary Levi's Jeans 'Fit Just Right,' and Now They're Under $50

The right pair of jeans is all about fit. As the original denim brand, Levi’s offers every fit imaginable under its famous 500 numbering system, ranging from skinny (510) and slim (511) to bootcut (517) and the legendary 501 original fit. If there's one Levi's style to know this week, it's the '60s-born 505, which just went on sale at Zappos.

Dubbed a regular fit, the 505 is a timeless pair of jeans for any age and body type. Like the 501, it's a straight-cut style, but it has a few key features that make it more comfortable and relaxed than its buttock-hugging sibling. Right now, Zappos has the Levi’s 505 in select washes for as low as $49—up to 30% off the normal $70 price. While the price varies by wash, classic colors in the 505 are only about $10 more.

Whereas the Levi’s 501 is a high-waisted fit that’s relatively tight in the hips and thighs (think Bruce Springsteen on the cover of Born in the USA), the 505 is roomier in the seat and thighs. It’s more comfortable and slightly relaxed while maintaining the classic look of a straight-leg jean. That doesn't make it any less cool, though—the 501 might have the classic rock cred of Springsteen, but the 505 was the favored pair of jeans of the Ramones.

The other detail that sets the 505 apart from the 501 is the fly; while the button fly of the 501 is an iconic detail, it can be somewhat fussy in practice. The 505 was Levi’s first zip-fly style, adding to the overall comfort and convenience of this design over the 501. The 505 is available in all-cotton or cotton-stretch varieties.

Many shoppers were pleased with the fit of the 505, with one writing that the jeans “fit just right and feel really comfortable.” Another compared them favorably with other Levi’s styles, writing, “If 501s are too tight and 560s are too loose, these jeans may be perfect.”

Since the 505 comes in multiple fabric types, it’s worth checking the product description to find the one you prefer. Many shoppers appreciated the non-stretch version, with one writing, “I liked 100% cotton version,” and another writing, “Great fit and not that 'stretch' material you may find elsewhere.” Others liked the stretch versions, writing, “The stretch material really makes them comfortable to wear all the time.” Trust your gut when making a selection.

The Levi's 505 jeans in Smokey Olive and Hot Fudge are classics with a twist, swapping blue denim for light green and dark brown, respectively. Not only do these make a great addition to your future spring wardrobe, but now is your chance to get them for less than $50 before sizes sell out.
